(Sunday 4 October 2009)

An 11 member delegation headed by Mr. Kazi Rafiqul Alam, Chairperson, CAMPE, met the Hon’ble Education Minister Mr. Nurul Islam Nahid at his office, and handed over prioritized recommendations of the Civil Society on the draft National Education Policy 2009. Other members present were Mr. Md. Azizul Haq, Ms. Jowshan Ara Rahman, Prof. Nazmul Haq, Dr. Safiqul Islam, Mr. Mohammad Mohsin, Mr. M. Habibur Rahman, Dr. Anwara Begum, Mr. Samir Ranjan Nath, Ms. Tasneem Athar and Mr. K. M. Enamul Hoque. The Hon’ble Minister appreciated CAMPE’s role in organizing such Civil Society Consultations and collect feedback so as to strengthen the Government’s initiative to introduce a National Education Policy encompassing Pre-school, Primary, Secondary and Higher Studies. He expressed the Government’s commitment to finalize the policy by December 2009 and go for gradual implementation from 2010. The Hon’ble Minister also assured the delegates that the recommendations will be taken into consideration and integrated to the main document wherever possible. It may be mentioned that CAMPE organized a National Consultation to collect feedback from the Civil Society Members on the draft National Education Policy 2009 on 27 September 2009. CAMPE compiled all the suggestions and recommendations received from the consultation and submitted to the Ministry of Education for consideration before finalizing the National Education Policy 2009.
