Workshop on "Gender Equity in Non-formal Education Material: Importance and Strategy"
(Wednesday 23 June, 2010)


 

A workshop on "Gender Equity in Non-formal Education Material: Importance and Strategy" was held in Bureau of Non-formal Education Auditorium on 23 June 2010. CAMPE and Bureau of Non-formal Education (BNFE) jointly organized the workshop. The workshop was organized to develop a guideline for addressing Gender Equity in non-formal education materials. This was a follow up of a workshop held earlier to review NFE materials through a gender lense by a group of gender specialists. An exhibition of non-formal education material developed by different agencies active in the sector was also inaugurated by the Chief Guest of the workshop Mr. Motahar Hossain, State Minister, Ministry of Primary and Mass Education (MoPME).
 


The Opening Session of the workshop, chaired by Ms. Rasheda K. Choudhury, Executive Director of CAMPE, was graced by presence of Ms. Suraiya Begum, Additional Secretary, MoPME and Mr. Rezaul Quader, Director General, BNFE.
 


The basic issues of the workshop were presented by Mr. Ranjan Karmakar, Executive Director of Steps Towards Development. Former Advisor to the Government of Bangladesh Ms. Tahmina Begum, Ms. Maleka Begum from Women and Gender Studies Department of Dhaka University and President of Women for Women Ms. Salma Khan were the panel discussants in the working session.

 

 

Mr. Abu Alam Md. Shahid Khan, Secretary In-Charge of Ministry of Primary and Mass Education was the Chief Guest of the Closing Session. Ms. Tasneem Athar, Deputy Director, CAMPE concluded the workshop with a synopsis of the day’s output. More then hundred representatives from education material developers, organizations working on gender issue, relevant government offices and other professional bodies participated in the workshop.
