| How is the Current education system in Bangladesh? |
Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE) successfully held its 28th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday, 18 October 2025, at the Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation Bhaban in Agargaon, Dhaka. The meeting brought together CAMPE’s member organizations and council (Board) members to review CAMPE’s progress, reflect on last year achievements, and discuss future strategies to advance education for all in Bangladesh.
The session was chaired by Dr. Iram Mariam, newly elected Chairperson of CAMPE and Executive Director of BRAC-IED, and was facilitated by Rasheda K. Choudhury, Executive Director of CAMPE. In her welcome remarks, Ms Choudhury appreciated the active engagement of member representatives and reaffirmed CAMPE’s collective commitment to promoting inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all.
The AGM commenced with the National Anthem and a revolutionary song, “Durgom Giri Kantar Moru, Durbar Parabar…”, performed by CAMPE staff, symbolizing unity, courage, and the spirit of social transformation. In solidarity with the people of Palestine, the meeting adopted a declaration condemning ongoing violence against civilians in Gaza and called for peace, justice, and international recognition of Palestine as an independent state.
A condolence motion was adopted in memory of CAMPE members who passed away since the last AGM, as well as to mourn the tragic loss of lives in the recent Uttara Milestone School and College plane crash. Members also paid tribute to the eminent educators and intellectuals - Professor Shafiul Alam, Language Movement veteran Professor Rafiqul Islam, Professor Mahfuza Khanam, Professor Jatin Sarkar, and Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam for their lifelong contributions to education and social development in Bangladesh. A special prayer was offered for the recovery of Mr Kazi Rafiqul Alam, former Chairperson of CAMPE.
The minutes of the previous AGM-2024, CAMPE’s Annual Report and the Audited Financial Report for FY 2024-2025 were reviewed and approved by the members of CAMPE. The body also endorsed the inclusion of new member organizations and discussed priorities for strengthening CAMPE’s advocacy, research, and network-wide collaboration in the coming year. The AGM elected a new Executive Committee (2025–2027) with the following office bearers:
• Chairperson: Dr. Iram Mariam, Executive Director, BRAC IED
• Vice-Chairperson: Mr. Yakub Hossain, Executive Director, VERC
• Treasurer: Mr. Jyoti F. Gomez, Adviser, Notre Dame University Bangladesh
• Member-Secretary: Rasheda K. Choudhury, Executive Director, CAMPE
In the closing session, members were briefed on CAMPE’s upcoming Strategic Plan 2026–2030, which outlines the network’s vision for strengthening advocacy, partnerships, and innovation toward achieving SDG 4 - Quality Education for All.
The meeting concluded with a renewed pledge from members to work collectively to strengthen civil society’s voice in education policy and to ensure equitable learning opportunities for every child in Bangladesh.
